From A Freelancer
to a Business Owner
Hello, My name is Tyler Wursta. Most creatives look at what I do, want to do it, but would rather work on more "creative" projects. Like films, TV, or "passion projects." I believe, if you are strong at helping businesses through producing corporate media, you will learn to love it.
I started my professional journey as a freelance video editor. Using sites like Upwork to connect with video production companies, marketing agencies, and business owners to edit their content. I had it made. I was a remote worker in 2015, able to work from my home on South Mountain. However, I disagreed with the way the video production industry was for businesses.
You see, video production companies and marketing agencies work together to drive an ROI for businesses. They are two sides of the same coin. Marketing comes up with ideas, strategy and researches trends. While media companies create the content, and send to marketing to push out. This is a great relationship to have. However, when a business does not have those resources, I saw so many media companies simply ask "How high?" when the business said "jump."
It was understandable, most video companies at the time did not know content strategy. Simply that their product was useful. I saw this happening and decided if I ever took the next step and built my own business, I would strive to know what to do when someone came to me without the resources to drive solid results.
That's exactly what I did.
Fast forward to 2023, this is almost expected of video companies today. Although it tends not to be the case that often.
You have video production companies that are only content creators. And you have video marketing agencies that do the same, but can be a step up for small to medium-sized businesses without a marketing department. We can take you to the top of the mountain. BUT, a marketing agency can take the content we create and send you to the moon and beyond. It is still better than staying a sea level or doing nothing at all.
